All Breed Pet Grooming Program

The objective of the Virginia School of Pet Grooming is to prepare students for employment as pet groomers through classroom lectures and practical, hands on experience in grooming all recognized breeds and specialized training in scissoring techniques. We want to produce groomers who are capable, humane, knowledgeable, and professional.

Length of Programs

Our class time runs 562 hours, 14 weeks, Monday through Friday and every other Saturday. The program can be tailored to meet individual needs.

The History of the Dog / Breed Identification
Animal Psychology and Behavior
First Aid and CPR for Dog, Cat and Man (Video) 
Selection of equipment: Safety, care, sanitization
Diseases / parasites: identification, sanitization
Foundation for grooming skills
Grooming vocabulary of the dog and cat
Skin disorders / nutrition of the dog and cat
Brushing, combing and dematting
Shop Management and Public relations
Cat grooming
All breed practical experience

Total Hours

Lecture hours are given with the practical work program as each topic arises. Any situations not able to be experienced directly will be covered separately via books, tapes and home study.
